Join Suzanne Bergman DDS FTMJF for a comprehensive review of temporomandibular disorders. Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are a complex group of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the jaw and surrounding muscles. The multifactorial nature of these conditions presents a challenge for health professionals. TMDs interfere with eating, communication, personal expression and can deeply affect an individual’s functional and psychological well-being.

The high prevalence, personal impact, and poor access to effective treatments creates an expanded role for dentists in today’s health care system. However, too many patients still receive unique treatments that fail to consider the whole person . The combined skills of medical, dental, and behavioral health specialists are required, especially when theseconditions become chronic. This course is designed to give dentists an evidence-based guide to diagnosing and managing TMDs, as well as making appropriate referrals. The aim is to focus on new conceptual models and systematic therapeutic strategies. Replacing empirical knowledge with science-based knowledge will empower providers to greatly improve outcomes for patients through a paradigm shift and an interdisciplinary approach.
