Update: MATE Act

The ADA has issued a FAQ (frequently asked questions) providing additional information regarding the 2022 Omnibus Bill with provisions for the MATE Act – which included a controlled substance education requirement for continuing DEA registration.

The FAQ suggests further information and guidance will be forthcoming by the end of March.

The Act contains exclusions and provisions for prospective sources of continuing education to comply with this new requirement for re-registration. Further, the current guidance makes plain that state-mandated requirements shall apply toward the 8 hours necessary for those who will be covered under the Act (see last paragraph below). What this means in practical terms is that as a DEA permit holder, then next time you renew it you will be required to comply with Act – i.e. you must demonstrate 8 hours of safe opiate prescribing continuing education.

Whether it is possible to apply successive years of state mandated compliance remains yet to be seen. If so, the impact of this provision may be downgraded significantly.

Rest assured, however, as CE Dojo is nationally approved AGD PACE provider of continuing education, training hours earned through our programs will credit against this new DEA re-licensure requirement (see yellow highlighted text – Page 3 of FAQ).
